How to remove unpleasant fridge odours
Start by removing old food and cleaning spills.

Empty and clean the fridge
Spilled sauces, uncovered dishes and food kept too long can cause unpleasant smells. Empty the fridge and discard old or expired food. Store strongly scented foods such as onions in a sealed container. Wipe food residue from the shelves.
Absorb odours
The source suggests sprinkling baking soda on the shelves. After half an hour, wipe it away thoroughly and return the food. For ongoing odour absorption it recommends Sano Fresh Odour with activated carbon; the source description states that it works for at least four months and can also be used in a pantry or kitchen cupboards.
